My name is U Saw Neing and I was born in 1965. I am a pure Burmese with a very strong Buddhist family background. There has never been anyone in our family that became a Christian, but all have faithfully and blindly followed the teachings of Guatama for a lifetime.

At six years old I entered the monastery school and began to learn about the Buddha, the “awakened” or “enlightened one.” I learned about his struggle for enlightenment and how he learned the answers of life through his own journey of suffering. I was taught that, as we are, he was; and as he became, we also can become.

Sometime after Jonathan's death on April 8, 2004, his personal belongngs arrived home from Iraq. As I opened the first locker, my eyes were drawn to a golden coin resting atop his belongings. The inscription on the coin read, "Proven In Battle." I am not sure who put it there, but those words continued with me as I considered writing this story of my son, Specialist Jonathan Roy Kephart. Thus the title of this booklet: Proven In Battle.
