What is the purpose for which God created us?
Was it so that men could enjoy life? Was it so men could work to try to be reconciled to God?
The Lord Himself says that His purpose for creating men is to honor, serve, obey, and fellowship with Him. It is for His glory He created us and not for ours.
In Isaiah 43:7, God tells us why He created us, "I have created him for my glory."
But NO ONE can bring glory to God if they aren't in the right relationship with Him (saved and forgiven)!
Isaiah 59:2 says, "But our iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear."
So, Do you know for sure...
That you have eternal life now and are saved entirely and will spend eternity with the Father in heaven? That right now, all your sins are forgiven?
If you were to die today, and God were to ask, "Why should I let you into My heaven?"
What would you say?
If your answer is, "I believe in God, and I've tried to live a good life." God will reject you!
God is just and fair.
He, therefore, must punish all our sins!
"…(I) will by no means clear the guilty…" (Exodus 34:7) "…every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment" (Matthew 12:36)
What is SIN?
Sin is breaking God's law and includes evil and lustful thoughts, words, and actions such as lying, cheating, deceit, anger, stealing, and immoral behavior.
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
"The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).
"But… all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire" (Rev. 21:8).
"…he that believeth not is condemned already…" (John 3:18).
There are no good works we can do to make up for our sins.
"…all our righteousnesses (good works done to try to gain salvation) are as filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6). "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10).
But despite our hopeless condition, there is good news!!
God is merciful and wants us to be saved!
Jesus Christ said, "The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10). But, Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is fully God and sinless man.
"In the beginning was the Word (Jesus Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…" (John 1:1, 14) AS GOD, Jesus Christ never had a beginning. He has always existed with the Father. AS MAN, Jesus Christ was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life.
Jesus Christ is the creator of all things.
"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible...(Colossians 1:16). AS GOD, Jesus Christ created the universe and all living creatures, including Lucifer. He is not our elder brother, but God alone.
Jesus Christ is the only priest after Melchizedec.
"But this man, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood" (Heb. 7:24). The word "unchangeable" means it cannot be passed on to any other man. The Aaronic priesthood is null and void today and has been replaced by one new priest (Jesus Christ), who is the only priest after Melchizedec (Heb. 7:11, 18).
So, how does that help us? Jesus paid it all!
As the innocent Lamb of God, Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for all our sins and rose bodily from the dead, providing our complete salvation! "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity (sin) of us all" (Isaiah 53:6). "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree (cross)…" (1 Peter 2:24).
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit" (1 Peter 3:18).
So, then, what must we do to be saved?
We must repent and trust in Christ and His sacrifice alone to be saved.
But what does it mean to repent?
TO REPENT means to admit our sinfulness and lost condition before God. It means to realize we are unworthy of receiving any favor or blessing from Him because we are justly condemned for our sins.
TO REPENT means to cry out to God like the publican did in Luke 18:13 and said, "God be merciful to me a sinner."
TO REPENT means to renounce any hope that religion or good works can help us gain any part of salvation and eternal life. Romans 4:5 says, "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."
NOTICE, in this verse, God justifies the ungodly, not the godly.
NOTICE it is only to them that do not work, and instead trust in Christ's work alone that are declared right by God in His sight.
So then, HOW can we receive eternal life and the forgiveness of all our sins?
ETERNAL LIFE IS A FREE GIFT!
"For the wages of sin is death; but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).
And because it is a GIFT, just like any other genuine gift, it cannot be earned or deserved.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the GIFT of God: NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8,9).
Saving faith is the key!
But what is saving faith?
1. SAVING FAITH IS NOT mere agreement with facts. The Bible says the devil believes there is only one God. But that doesn't save him.
2. SAVING FAITH IS NOT just saying you believe in Jesus and then doing anything you want. A person cannot be saved by faith plus works. But saving faith is not real if it doesn't produce a change in a person's life after being saved.
Would you like to bow your head and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
First, admit to God that you are a lost, condemned sinner. Next, tell God you understand that you cannot help gain any part of your salvation by any works you can do. Tell God you believe with all your heart that Jesus paid the full penalty and price for all your sins and rose again for your salvation. Fourthly, tell God you now want Jesus Christ to come into your heart as your Lord and Savior. Finally, thank God for saving your soul and forgiving your sins.
So, how can you know for sure you are saved?
1. God promises "…Whosoever SHALL CALL upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Rom. 10:13)
2. God says two things will happen when you trust in Christ alone for complete salvation
"The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God" (Romans 8:16) "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that you have eternal life" (1 John 5:13)
It is God's will for those who are saved to grow in the Lord. You grow spiritually by taking the following steps:
1. READ THE BIBLE, starting with the book of John. Read at least one chapter each day. "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word that ye may grow thereby" (1 Peter 2:2).
2. PRAY DAILY, expressing your praise, thanks, and heart's desires to God.
"Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God" (Philippians 4:6).
3. WORSHIP and serve the Lord in a good Bible-teaching church that honors Christ. "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some…" (Hebrews 10:25)
4. BE BAPTIZED in obedience to the Lord as a public testimony of your faith in Christ. "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized…" (Acts 2:41)
5. WITNESS "…Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).
