Did you know that children are often afraid? We use this
reality to point young people to Jesus. Some fears are common for all kids: fear of being lost, failing, storms,
or being left out. Others are forced to
confront larger fears like divorce and death.
God has answers for children’s fears. Isaiah 41:10 is used to turn
children’s eyes from their fears to Christ.

“It’s fun to be scared!”
That is what a girl said after she walked down a very dark street. The shadows from the trees and bushes made everything look different. When you are in the dark, everything can seem scary.
Some scary things are okay, like dark streets or big roller coasters. Other things can make us afraid that are NOT okay. Many times we cannot make these scary things go away.
Jesus knew things would come that would make us afraid. So, He made promises to help us. That is how much He loves us! Here is one of His promises.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
- Isaiah 41:10
Jesus promised that when trouble and fearful things come, we do NOT need to fear. We do not have to “be dismayed.” That means to feel like running away. Jesus CAN help. He WANTS to help all of us, even YOU!
God’s Promise
Explained
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee:”
Remember, this is a promise from God. He will be with us. Our Bible is full of stories of scary things happening to God’s children. From these stories, we learn that God is with people all the time.
“...be not dismayed; for I am thy God:”
The verse says we do not have to run away. Being afraid makes people want to run away. Some people do run away. They do not know that Jesus will help them. When we have Jesus as our Savior, we do not need to run from scary things.
“I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee....”
The Lord Jesus promises He will give us His strength when we are afraid. God does this for all His children. It is one of the unique ways He helps us. He does this for everyone who knows Jesus as their Savior.
No Surprise
Are you surprised that God wants to help you when you are afraid? You do not need to be surprised. God has already given us a gift that is far better than this!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son....”
- John 3:16
Jesus Christ is God. He came to earth to give us eternal life. The biggest thing to be afraid of is not going to heaven when we die. God said, “...the soul (person) that sinneth it shall die.” He also said, “All have sinned...” - Romans 3:23
Our sin is a big problem. We cannot take it away ourselves. God knows this, so He sent Jesus to die on the cross to pay for our sins. “...while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
“...that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16
Jesus died on the cross to pay for all our sins. Because He died, we can be forgiven of all our sins! We get God’s forgiveness by believing on Jesus as our Savior. We call Jesus our Savior because He saves us from sin. He gives us eternal life.
